EUROPEAN FUR AUCTION HOUSE TO PLACE SEALS ON THE CATWALKS

The world's largest fur auction house, Kopenhagen Fur in Denmark, has signed a contract with the Greenland self-government regarding the sales and marketing of Greenlandic seal. The sales of Greenlandic seal has been impossible since 2009, when the EU ban on commercial seal products took the bottom out of the world market. The objective of the new agreement between Kopenhagen Fur and the Greenlandic self-government is to re-ignite the sales of Greenlandic inuit seal skins which are exempt from the EU ban through the so-called inuit exemption.

The Greenlandic Prime Minister Aleqa Hammond supports the agreement with the hope that Greenlandic seal will regain its former status as a sustainable product.

"Hopefully the expected increased sales of Greenlandic seal skins will contribute to reestablish a profitable and sustainable frame for Great Greenland (marketing company owned by the self-government, red.) to operate within. Through many years, Kopenhagen Fur has proved itself as a very strong international platform for the sales of fur skins," the prime Minister says in a press release.

Kopenhagen Fur will actively promote the Greenlandic seal skins by sending them to the creative workshop Kopenhagen Studio where new fur fashion trends are developed. The Greenlandic skins will also be showcased when the auction house participates and various fairs and fashion shows all over the world. Earlier the Danish auction house has gained massive success with the international promotion of Namibian swakara skins which today are found in the collections of many of the world's leading fashion designers.

"We are very proud of the cooperation with Great Greenland. It is our common goal to bring the beautiful and unique seal skins back where they belong, namely to the top of the international fashion scene. We will do everything we can to live up to the confidence shown to us by Greenland and the Greenlandic hunters. Their battle is our battle - also in the political arena," says Managing Director of Kopenhagen Fur, Torben Nielsen, in a press release.
